New Year, new resolution: get back into blogging!

A new exciting project just came along: I bought condo! I have been renting for the past two years and although I did spend time (and money!) decorating my living space, the investment factor wasn’t the same for me since I didn’t own the place.

My new playground has close to 1000 square feet and lots of sunshine, since it’s a corner unit. The plan will give you a better idea of the layout.

Ok although I am only moving in April, I couldn’t wait to open my design books and my inspiration binder full of magazine images to get started!

First stop: Dining and living area

My inspiration: a couple of things..

  • Sarah Richardson’s use of navy paisley in a baby’s bedroom, plus mixing it up with orange

    Sarah Ricardson's nursery

  • Jonathan Adler’s current philosophy of pairing strong colours with a base shade, like grey

  • One of my favourite designers of all time: Ralph Lauren. Can’t go wrong with tartans…!

Following these designers’ styles, this is what I was able to put together so far:

  • I absolutely love the greys of the Sicopalette! It was hard to pick, but I decided to go with Ice Castle. This beautiful warm grey will go on the walls and I will also use it in a gloss finish on casings that I will use to create tone-on-tone frames too!

  • This grey will certainly tie up with the modern milk chocolate brown kitchen cabinets:

  • I will create a frame behind the tv wall, and fill it with this gorgeous orange and beige wallpaper, by Antonina Vella:

  • I also found this navy paisley fabric from the Nautica collection, which I will most likely use to create drapes:

  • Pillow talk: never underestimate what you can find in thrift stores! I found two pillowcases for $1.98 (yes!) in a thrift store close to work and I transformed them into these beautiful pillows, that will go on by beige sofa:

Those used to be pillowcases!!

  • I will also create smaller pillows with this ethnic-inspired fabric:

This is just a start! I still need to find some furniture for the tv wall!! More to come!

My brother and his girlfriend went to Japan last month and brought me back an amazing magazine called Glamorous. This book is loaded with fashion-forward trends. One of them is pumps paired with ankle socks. I’ve seen it in some Canadian magazines too. I wear them at work once in a while although I get weird looks..!

Here are pictures from December 2010’s Glamorous magazine:

The magazine industry has been going through many changes in the past couple of years. Due to economic downturns and the evolution of technology, new distribution channels are emerging. The Web offers different possibilities such as interactivity and complements the print experience.

Launched in September of 2010, the online publication The Kit is an absolute delight for women interested in beauty. It is divided into Hair, Health, Face and Body Care sections. The free magazine is published five times a year and newsletters are also frequently sent to supplement it. For those of you who can’t live without your iPhone or iPad, The Kit also has its app!
